On November 22, 2024, Meishan Port in Zhoushan achieved its first-ever milestone of handling “ten million TEUs.” Combined with the already ten-million-TEU-capable Chuanshan Port, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port has become the world’s only port with two standalone container terminals boasting this throughput capacity.
In late 2023, Meishan Terminal was transformed into the “world’s only standalone ten-million-TEU mixed-mode automated container terminal.” The impressive operational efficiency behind this milestone is powered by cutting-edge autonomous truck technology, specifically the FabuDrive® Autonomous Horizontal Transport System developed by FABU Technology.
Recently, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) announced its list of “Artificial Intelligence-Enabled New Industrialization Demonstration Cases,” and FABU Technology’s “Autonomous Horizontal Transport Vehicle Solutions for Smart Ports” was officially selected. This recognition affirms the national-level importance of FABU Technology’s independently developed standardized autonomous driving products.
This case collection focuses on the theme of “AI Empowering New Industrialization” and highlights four major dimensions of new productivity: technological foundations, industry applications, equipment products, and supporting safeguards. A total of 151 cases were selected, serving as exemplary benchmarks in their respective fields.
FABU Technology’s inclusion in MIIT’s list was driven by its autonomous trucks and intelligent guided vehicles (IGVs), all equipped with the latest generation of the FabuDrive® system. With a core advantage of seamless integration between autonomous and manned vehicles, the system has undergone over six years and 1,800 days of rigorous validation at the world’s largest port group. It has successfully transitioned from a technological innovation to a standardized product, achieving international safety certifications including IEC 62443-3-3 for system security and ISO 22737 for functional safety, and earning the world’s first L4-level autonomous driving system safety standard certification. The large-scale deployment of FABU’s autonomous transport vehicles has reduced annual labor costs for clients by 96%.
Behind these standardized products and premium services lies FABU Technology’s profound understanding of customer needs. Autonomous vehicles tackle cost challenges, while intelligent dispatch systems address efficiency concerns, effectively balancing cost reduction and productivity enhancement.
At Meidong Terminal, one of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port’s facilities with 10 berths, FABU Technology has deployed 102 autonomous trucks covering three berths, achieving regularized autonomous operations.
As Meidong Terminal surpasses the milestone of handling ten million TEUs annually, its operations become more intensive, with tighter schedules, more complex instructions, and heavier traffic. FABU’s FabuDispatch® Fleet and Equipment Management System enhances operational efficiency by optimizing loading sequences and resolving traffic bottlenecks in real-time through V2V coordination. Using AI algorithms grounded in real-world data, the efficiency of the autonomous fleet matches that of human-operated vehicles. Peak operations at the terminal achieve up to 8 simultaneous routes for large vessels, handling over 200,000 TEUs in a single quarter, setting industry-leading benchmarks across multiple metrics.
As a national-level “Little Giant” enterprise specializing in niche technologies and a recognized high-tech enterprise, FABU Technology is dedicated to advancing automation and intelligence in traditional industries through AI innovation. FABU has already deployed over 160 autonomous vehicles across Ningbo, Zhoushan, Nantong, and other locations.
This milestone aligns with the objectives of demonstrating large-scale applications of “new technologies, products, and scenarios” and reflects a proactive response to the Central Economic Work Conference’s call to “drive new productivity growth through technological innovation.” FABU Technology remains committed to accelerating the commercialization of AI-driven innovations and contributing to the mission of building world-class ports.
