“To date, we have deployed over 400,000 terminal devices worldwide, including AGV charging systems.”
“Our AGV charging business grew by 200% year-on-year.”
“We own the core technology for AGV charging systems, with over 70% of the components produced in-house.”
“Our products are widely implemented in renowned clients’ operations, such as BYD, Heli, Hangcha, Hai Robotics, Guozi, Multiway Robotics, Gen-Song, Siasun, and Noblelift, and their reliability has been rigorously proven.”
These statements were made by Guo Xian, General Manager of the Construction Machinery Division at Guangdong Aipower New Energy Technology Co., a leading AGV charging system provider that has demonstrated remarkable growth and innovation in the field.
A Seasoned Veteran in a New Arena
Founded in 2015, Aipower initially specialized in charging solutions for new energy electric vehicles (EVs). Despite the technical differences between EV charging stations and AGV charging systems—such as power, speed, interface, and protocol—there are similarities in charging principles and safety measures. The challenges faced in EV charging, such as reliability, efficiency, and adaptability, align closely with the technical demands of AGV charging.
Leveraging its extensive expertise in EV charging, Aipower entered the AGV charging market in 2018, offering comprehensive solutions for AGV/AMR applications. Its portfolio includes charging systems for various robot types, ranging from light-load shuttle robots to heavy-duty AGV forklifts. Aipower also supplies critical components and core modules, including contact-based and wireless charging systems, catering to mobile robot companies developing their chargers.
Balancing Standardization and Customization
Guo acknowledges that the growing AGV market has spurred many robot manufacturers to develop proprietary charging systems. While this reflects the increasing demand, she notes that in-house development requires substantial resources, including R&D funding, time, and expertise. For many companies, adopting tested and proven solutions from specialized providers like Aipower remains more cost-effective.
To address diverse client needs, Aipower innovatively balances customization with standardization. By designing adjustable features—such as height and voltage—its chargers can adapt to different AGV models without the inefficiencies of fully custom designs. This approach has enhanced production scalability and cost-effectiveness.
Guo foresees that standardization will dominate if AGV prices continue to drop, while premium products may retain customization to enhance brand differentiation. Regardless, Aipower is committed to maintaining technical readiness, ensuring it can swiftly meet evolving demands with reliable solutions.
Navigating Emerging Trends and Overseas Markets
With the rise of specialized applications like low-temperature and explosion-proof environments, demand for wireless charging is increasing. However, Guo points out that wireless charging faces challenges such as lower efficiency and higher costs, limiting its widespread adoption. While monitoring this trend, Aipower focuses on preparing for future breakthroughs.
Aipower also actively supports Chinese AGV manufacturers in expanding overseas. Its chargers, such as 24V/50A and 80V/200A models, have secured certifications like TUV for Europe and North America, simplifying compliance for clients entering international markets. To ease after-sales service, Aipower employs modular designs and comprehensive training programs, enabling local teams to handle maintenance with minimal technical support.
Sustaining Innovation for Long-Term Growth
Guo emphasizes that technical innovation is crucial for sustaining growth in a competitive market. Aipower continuously invests in R&D to enhance product stability, which she identifies as a key factor in achieving near-zero after-sales issues. By integrating advanced software solutions with robust hardware, Aipower ensures its chargers meet the stringent demands of AGV operations.
Looking ahead, Aipower aims to lead the global lithium battery charging market while supporting the rise of China’s mobile robotics industry. “As Chinese mobile robot companies extend their influence worldwide, we aspire to be the leading provider of cutting-edge charging solutions,” Guo concludes.
