Introduction:
As a strategic cornerstone of OPPO’s Southwest China operations, the Chongqing Intelligent Ecological Science and Technology Park is more than a manufacturing base—it is OPPO’s largest future production and logistics hub, designed to underpin global supply chain resilience. Here, GALAXIS has deployed a mission-critical asset: a fully integrated, 20-meter-high automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) that links smart manufacturing with intelligent logistics.
The 3C Warehousing Conundrum: Complexity at Scale
The 3C (computer, communication, consumer electronics) industry is defined by rapid product cycles, high SKU diversity, and volatile order patterns. These traits create severe friction for traditional warehousing:
Operational Bottlenecks: Manual workflows cannot keep pace with shifting production schedules, while fragmented material management and data silos drive up error rates and labor costs.
Technical Hurdles: Orchestrating mixed fleets (AMRs, stacker cranes, etc.) remains challenging. Automation is often siloed across receiving, storage, picking, and dispatch. Additionally, varying building conditions demand solutions that are both standardized and site-adaptive.
The GALAXIS Solution: Engineering a “Space Revolution”
GALAXIS designed and implemented OPPO’s first ASRS that surpasses 20 meters in height. The system seamlessly integrates with the entire production process, comprising single-depth pallet racks, four-story mezzanines on both ends, and sorting conveyors.
Core System Capacity:
7,000+ pallet locations
50,000+ storage locations
The solution manages the full spectrum of materials—raw, packaging, auxiliary, semi-finished, and finished goods—delivering a unified “Smart Manufacturing + Automated Warehousing” ecosystem.
Technology Stack in Action:
The facility deploys stacker cranes, multi-shuttle robots (MSR), and autonomous mobile robots (AMR) for automated retrieval and transport. End-to-end intelligence is enabled by a tightly integrated Warehouse Management System (WMS) and Warehouse Control System (WCS) , orchestrating automated material flow from inbound to shop-floor delivery with production-pace precision.

Key Value Drivers (Project Highlights):
Deep Production Synergy: Seamless AMR/MSR integration enables a “goods-to-person” workflow, slashing labor intensity and sharpening production response times.
Radical Space Utilization: The ASRS saves 45,000 sq. meters of warehousing footprint and boosts space efficiency by 7–8x compared to conventional construction, creating headroom for future capacity expansion.
Future-Ready Architecture: Pre-installed Industrial Internet interfaces support upcoming digital twin, edge-cloud, and AR/VR maintenance applications—laying the groundwork for a “5G+ digital innovation factory” in smart device production.
Data-Driven Operations: Big-data analytics enable dynamic inventory scheduling and intelligent production sequencing, supporting faster management decisions and reducing operational costs.
Industry Benchmark & Outlook
OPPO’s first >20m ASRS is more than a facility upgrade—it is a strategic enabler. The project resolves chronic production-warehouse coordination pain points while establishing a digital foundation for OPPO’s large-scale 5G device manufacturing. The result: marked gains in throughput, space productivity, and production flexibility. This case now stands as a definitive benchmark for smart manufacturing and intelligent logistics convergence in consumer electronics. Moving forward, GALAXIS and OPPO will continue to co-innovate, exploring new smart factory paradigms for the Industrial Internet era.
