On July 2, the robots developed by ByteDance have been mass-produced for over 1,000 units. The company completed the mass production target of 200 units in 2023, and the annual mass production has increased by over 100% since then.

Currently, the robot form that ByteDance has mass-produced is a wheeled logistics robot, or an autonomous mobile robot (AMR). It does not have a robotic arm for sorting. Its main purpose is to transport packages and parts in warehouses and production lines. It can learn, plan routes, and move to destinations autonomously. It is reported that ByteDance’s logistics robots currently mainly serve its own businesses such as Tik Tok e-commerce warehouses, and have also won some external customers, such as SF Express and BYD Electronics, to transport parts and processed goods within the production base.
After several years of development, the current long-term goal of the ByteDance robot team is to challenge embodied intelligence. ByteDance’s research and development and production of logistics robots are mainly to explore embodied intelligence: enter real scenarios, obtain some data, and also obtain feedback and landing feel.
