As the birthplace of the market-oriented reform of sanitation services in China, Shenzhen has always been at the forefront of the transformation and upgrading of China’s sanitation industry. It has not only set a benchmark for the country in exploring market mechanisms, but also seized the opportunity presented by the new generation of technological revolutions such as artificial intelligence and autonomous driving, deeply integrating smart and intelligent technologies into the urban sanitation system, continuously leading the industry’s development.
Shenzhen’s leadership begins with policy innovation and is achieved through industrial collaboration and ecosystem co-construction.
In recent years, a series of special support policies issued by Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Urban Management and Comprehensive Law Enforcement and relevant departments have provided a favorable development environment for the large-scale application and technological innovation of intelligent sanitation robots from top to bottom, covering top-level design, right-of-way opening, testing standards, and scenario supply. This has also guided the formation of a virtuous cycle of “technology research and development—scenario verification—industrial agglomeration.”
This month, Shenzhen will once again host a grand sanitation technology event—2025 Shenzhen International Artificial Intelligence Sanitation Robot Competition–cum-Application Innovation Competition.
This competition is co-sponsored by Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Urban Management and Comprehensive Law Enforcement, Industry and Information Technology Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality, Shenzhen Municipal Science and Technology Innovation Bureau, Shenzhen Municipal Transport Bureau, Shenzhen Municipal Small and Medium Enterprises Service Bureau, and Longgang District People’s Government of Shenzhen, with the Low-Speed Automated Driving Industry Alliance (LSAD) as a co-organizer.
The competition combines a closed competition with an open competition format. The closed competition, held from November 26 to 27, will employ strict measures such as physical enclosure and signal interference to assess the participating equipment’s ability to operate fully autonomously in an independent environment without human assistance.
The open competition, held from November 28 to 29, will be open to the public, allowing citizens to witness firsthand the outstanding performance of the AI-powered sanitation robots.

2025 Shenzhen International Artificial Intelligence Sanitation Robot Competition-cum-Application Innovation Competition will be held at Shenzhen University of Information Technology from November 26 to 29, 2025.
