On January 20, Los Angeles-based Serve Robotics announced it will acquire Diligent Robotics Inc. for $29 million. This acquisition marks Serve Robotics’ first foray into the indoor environments, mobile operations, and healthcare industries.
Diligent Robotics developed Moxi, an autonomous hospital delivery robot that supports nurses and medical staff. Moxi is already in use in more than 25 hospitals across the United States, with clients including leading hospitals and healthcare systems such as Northwestern Medicine, Christiana Hospital, and Rochester General Hospital.
Serve Robotics is a sidewalk delivery robot developer. It was spun off from Uber in 2021 and went public on Nasdaq in April 2024. By December 2025, it has delivered 2,000 robots across the United States, covering areas including Los Angeles, Miami, the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, Atlanta, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, and Alexandria, Virginia.
This acquisition aims to achieve the following objectives:
- Expand the nationwide deployment of Moxi hospital robots, empowering more clinicians;
- Accelerate the flywheel effect of AI and autonomy on the Serve platform, leveraging collaborative learning among robots to shorten deployment cycles and expand operational scope;
- Validate high-revenue, high-efficiency healthcare use cases, empowering the Serve platform;
- Promote the cross-industry adoption of the Serve autonomous platform, focusing on areas requiring navigation, door opening, and elevator operation in densely populated indoor environments;
- Share supply chain, technological infrastructure, and operational capabilities to improve the long-term efficiency of both Serve and Moxi across all scenarios;
- Achieve revenue growth, targeting annual sales of $200,000 to $400,000 per hospital for Moxi robots.
Serve Robotics stated that the transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2026, after which Diligent Robotics will continue to operate as a subsidiary of Serve. Serve Robotics may also make an additional $5.3 million payment to Diligent shareholders upon reaching certain milestones.
